American Federation of Mineralogical Societies
The American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS) is the parent organization for seven regional mineralogical societies that encompass the United States.
Purpose of the AFMS:
"To promote popular interest and education in the various Earth Sciences, and in particular the subjects of Geology, Mineralogy, Paleontology, Lapidary and other related subjects, and to sponsor and provide means of coordinating the work and efforts of all persons and groups interested therein; to sponsor and encourage the formation and international development of Societies and Regional Federations and by and through such means to strive toward greater international good will and fellowship."

Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies
The Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies (SFMS) is one of the seven societies of the American Federation. Cobb County Gem and Mineral Society belongs to the Southeast Federation. Mayo Foundation Scholarship Program
CCGMS provides support to the Mayo Foundation Scholarship Program , a separately-incorporated division of the Southeast Federation. The purpose of the scholarship is to accumulate a fund that is used to finance scholarships. Since the first grant in 1985, a total of $122,300 has been given to forty-two students seeking degrees in the earth sciences fields. Visit the SFMS website for details.
